Miss World 2021 Finale Postponed
After weeks of fast track competitions, activities and events, contestants of the 70th Miss World pageant will return to their respective home countries without having crowned a new Miss World.
According to the organizers, the decision to postpone the highly anticipated anniversary pageant was made after several of the contestants tested positive for COVID-19.
A press release from the Miss World organization stated, "Miss World 2021 temporarily postpones global broadcast finale in Puerto Rico due to health and safety interest of contestants, staff, crew and [the] general public. The finale will be rescheduled at Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot within the next 90 days".
The finale was set to broadcast on Thursday, 16 December from Puerto Rico.
Previously, Miss World Cayman Islands, Rashana Hydes placed in the top 16 in her Head to Head Interview Challenge.
She went on to compete in a speak off but was edged out by Miss Paraguay.
Although Rashana has not secured a placement through any of the fast track competitions, she could still make the Top 30 as one of the judge’s picks.
WIth the postponement, fans and supporters will have to wait for the finale to resume in order to find out if Rashana will be the first Caymanian to make the Top 30 at Miss World.
The Miss World Cayman Islands committee as well as the reigning Miss World Cayman Islands, Rashana Hydes, posted statements in support of the Miss World postponement.
"We know this is disappointing but we understand and support the Miss World organization on this decision."
Rashana shared "I am safe and blessed and will continue to trust God, lean on my support system and adapt to our ever-changing circumstances with a grateful heart."
Rashana will be returning to the Cayman Islands on Friday, 17 December at 2:30 PM.
