One of the biggest mistakes I see contestants make is declaring an organization as their platform.

An organization is NOT a pageant platform.

Read that again because it is very important.

Declaring that an organization is your pageant platform will scream amateur to your judges.

Remember that a pageant platform is a cause or an issue that needs to be addressed or solved in some way.

So instead of saying the Breast Cancer Foundation is your pageant platform.

You would say your pageant platform is Breast Cancer Awareness and that you volunteered with the Breast Cancer Foundation,

This will show that you are serious about your pageant platform.

This makes perfect send Because breast cancer is a problem that needs to be solved.

The next common mistake I see pageant contestants make is choosing a platform they have little to no interest in.

This is a big no-no.

Often contestants will just choose something because of a recent experience they had.

And while sometimes this can work out for you, it can also go the other way.

That's why I recommend you take your time when it comes to deciding on your pageant platform.

Your pageant platform should be something that you wake up excited to talk about and work hard for.

After all, you may have to talk about it for the next 365 days if you win.

Do some soul searching and really try to figure out what you are passionate about.

Final Thoughts

One of the benefits of competing in a pageant is all the volunteer work you inevitably take on.

Pageantry can help you discover the importance of giving back.

And it allows you to raise awareness about a specific cause and helps you really make a difference in society.

You can avoid these mistakes by putting a little extra thought into choosing your pageant platform.
