Leanni Tibbetts is Miss World Cayman Islands 2022
On Saturday, 24 September, 25-year-old Leanni Tibbetts was crowned Miss World Cayman Islands 2022 at the 4th annual pageant that was held at Harquail Theatre. Leanni, who was Contestant #1, is a Pilot, Coast Guard and Sub Lieutenant for the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps. Leanni believes in the quote ‘Be the Change’ and ran on a platform of women empowerment especially for those women in abusive situations as well as highlight environmental initiatives.
As the new titleholder, Leanni will receive a $70, 000 scholarship from the Cayman Islands Government as well as the opportunity to represent the Cayman Islands at the 71st Miss World international pageant.
Also competing for the title were: Contestant #2 Melissa Bridgemohan, Contestant #3 Latoya Jackson, Contestant #4 Deverlee Ramos-Bodden and Contestant #5 Angelique Copeland.
Over the past four months, the five contestants prepared for the competition by participating in dance, runway, public speaking and etiquette training sessions, as well as going on various environmental, heritage and cultural tours.
The competition began with the Sports Day segment, which took place on Saturday, 3 September, where each contestant participated in a variety of team and individual sports competitions. The other segments of the pageant included Interview, Beauty with a Purpose, Multimedia, Top Model (Swimsuit & Island Couture), Evening Gown and Final Question & Answer.
First and Second Runner- Up went to Contestant #2 Melissa Bridgemohan and Contestant #3 Latoya Jackson, respectively. The remaining results were as follows:

The theme for this year’s pageant was ‘The Crown’ in honor of the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the II, to whom they honored with a beautiful Steel pan tribute played Jimi LaPierre.
The pageant also recognized and awarded its Girl Power Member of the Year as Manusri ‘Manu’ Prabhakar. Manu recently established a new business venture which strives to reduce single use plastic and positively impact the environment. The award was presented by the Chairperson of Girl Power Cayman and Miss World Cayman Islands 2019, Jaci Patrick alongside Pamela Ebanks-Small, Director of the Miss World Cayman pageant.
In a speech made by the Director, it was revealed that the pageant had entered into a joint venture with Stephan Cotterell of Keep Creative Studios, a local videography company, to produce a reality TV show based on this year’s pageant, with the first episode set to drop this October.
The Miss World Cayman Islands pageant falls under Girl Power Ltd, which is a registered non-for- profit that also manages a free training and mentoring program for young ladies between the ages of 15 and 27 called Girl Power Cayman. The members in this group, as well as the contestants participate in community service activities especially those that focus on the environment as the preservation of the environment is the pageant’s official platform.
