On Friday, 28 April 2023, The Miss Universe Cayman Islands (MUCI) Committee held a crowning ceremony where Chloe Powery-Doxey, the First Runner-up to the Miss Universe Cayman Islands 2022 title, was officially crowned Miss Universe Cayman Islands 2022.

Additionally, the Committee also saw fit to appoint the Third Runner-up, Whitney Foster as the new First Runner-up as it was recently revealed that the Second Runner-up, Hayley Grizzel had resigned from her position.

The new crowning was brought on after the original winner of the competition, Ms. Tiffany Connolly was dethroned after being convicted on 6 criminal offenses.

During the ceremony the audience heard from the Hon. Minister for Tourism & Ports, Mr. Kenneth Bryan, (as the Ministry formerly responsible for overseeing the pageant on behalf of the Government which was the previous franchise holder). In his speech, Minister Bryan stating that he is “honoured to be here tonight to witness the official crowning of Ms. Chloe Powery-Doxey. In a special message to Ms. Powery-Doxey, he shared that “Your future is very bright. I believe being crowned Miss Cayman Islands Universe is just one small part of your beautiful journey for the future and after the crown is passed on to another beautiful amazing queen, I hope that as you continue down your path of your personal and professional growth, you will also continue to serve your community just as many past queens have done.”

The National Director Ms. Derri Lee for the Miss Universe Cayman Islands pageant gave a speech in which she confirmed the appointment of Catherine Tyson as the new Chairperson. She went on to share that Ms. Tyson has been given the opportunity to put together her own committee but that at the franchise level the Committee remains the same as the previous one.

Ms. Tyson also spoke at the event where she welcomed the public to a new era in pageantry in the Cayman Islands. “My aim as the new Chairperson is to continue with the legacy that has been built and that is to be a positive forum for young women. I want to create a club that empowers each woman through beauty, poise, and kindness to one another while making the world a better place.”

She also shared a brief history of Cayman’s relationship with pageantry and stated that “…we are not brand new and I have been in this room a long time and will continue to be there. My aim for my Chairmanship is to ensure that we are not only in the room but our name is called and that the universe knows exactly who the Cayman Islands is.”

The Committee unveiled a new logo and encouraged the public to support future contestants.

Although the Committee did allude that there will be changes made to the competition, no specific details were given.
